MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING

We all went into the health and social care profession to help people, however if you spend your life explaining what your patient should, must or needs to do then this is the course for you.

What is Motivational Interviewing?

Motivational interviewing is a style of communication that uses a guiding/reflective style to engage with patients, clarify their strengths and aspirations, and utilise their own motivations for change, and promote independence of decision making.

If this is sounding a little flowery, in a nutshell, it saves your breath, your time and you are more effective when it comes to people making decisions about themselves.

Quick Overview of the Day

We begin with a general introduction into MI before diving into each of the core skills one step at a time. At the end of each skill our tutors will demonstrate, and then hand over to the delegates to practice in pairs. Each day is tailored to the delegates specific needs, and our tutors will conduct their demonstrations based off the requests of the delegates. We manage this and more, all without the use of Powerpoint!

We all think we are brilliant communicators but come and find out how to leave the responsibility where it belongs. This course has run for several years and without exception evaluates as a stunning learning experience, where delegates leave knowing why they want to use MI, what MI is all about and the ability to start practising the very next day.
